Modern Pentathlon

Modern Pentathlon is a multi-sport event that consists of five distinct disciplines: fencing, swimming, equestrian show jumping, and a combined event of pistol shooting and cross-country running. Originally established as an Olympic event in 1912, it was designed to simulate the skills required by a soldier behind enemy lines. The modern version includes both individual and team competitions, with athletes competing in all five disciplines typically over the course of a single day. The unique combination of sports tests an athlete’s versatility, endurance, and tactical skills, making it a demanding and comprehensive athletic challenge.
