J-Pop

J-Pop, short for Japanese Pop music, refers to a genre of music originating from Japan that encompasses a wide range of contemporary styles, including pop, rock, hip-hop, and electronic music. It emerged in the 1990s, evolving from earlier genres such as Kayōkyoku (traditional Japanese popular music) and encompasses both independently produced tracks and music from major record labels. J-Pop is characterized by its catchy melodies, production techniques influenced by Western pop music, and often includes a blend of both Japanese and English lyrics. Artists in this genre typically appeal to a broad audience, both in Japan and internationally, and often feature elaborate music videos and performances. J-Pop has also influenced various aspects of Japanese culture, including fashion and media, establishing a significant presence in global music trends.
